Weather permitting, fogging will take place on Wednesday and Thursdays, starting Wednesday, June 25. Evening applications are scheduled to minimize exposure to both people and pollinators. Areas that are inaccessible by truck (hay fields east and south of town) will be covered by helicopter. The helicopter will only fly one time unless otherwise deemed necessary.
The Sublette County Mosquito Abatement District #1 will be using truck-mounted foggers to treat areas throughout the town and surrounding district. Fogging will occur only on public roads—trucks will not enter private driveways or parking lots.
The product being used is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring compound derived from chrysanthemum flowers. It has been approved for urban use by both the EPA and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. EPA statement (source: EPA permethrin factsheet): "When used as directed, permethrin poses no unreasonable risks to human health or the environment." While it is not required, residents are encouraged to close their windows during the application. The fogger applies about one-third the amount of product previously used by helicopter treatments. However, it is combined with a mineral oil carrier to aid in dispersal. The product is atomized into droplets that are slightly smaller than the width of a human hair.
The map below shows the areas that will be fogged. Fogging will begin on the outskirts of Town and then move into Town later in the evening.
